REALTORS® have two sets of education requirements. As REALTORS®, they must complete NAR approved a Code of Ethics and a Fair Housing course every three years. Training for these courses may be completed on NAR’s website, through a REALTOR® association or through an approved home study, correspondence, classroom or online course. REALTOR® members can check their Code of Ethics and Fair Housing records by signing into their NAR account. They can also read the consequences of failing to complete the Code of Ethics training.
About the Code of Ethics Training Requirement
Since 2001, REALTORS® have been required to take Code of Ethics to retain their membership. REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. NAR’S Board of Directors approved a change to the Code of Ethics training requirement, extending it from every two years to every three years.
The current Cycle 7 began January 1, 2025 and ends December 31, 2027.
Failure to complete training during any cycle will lead to revocation of membership and your REALTOR® membership rights, privileges and services will be suspended until the requirement has been satisfied. While suspended, your obligation to abide by the Code of Ethics continues, as does the obligation to pay dues. IMPORTANT: This is a requirement of NAR not KREC. About Fair Housing Requirement
REALTORS® are required to complete Fair Housing/Anti-Bias Training upon becoming a member and ever three years thereafter, coinciding with the Code of Ethics training timeline. This requirement is in addition to the Code of Ethics training. Qualified training must be of not less than two hours of instructional time. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. This requirement began on January 1, 2025. The first cycle ends on December 31, 2027. The following options are available to complete this requirement:
